Private House in Pirita, Tallinn
Best Private House, Estonia's Prefab House of the Year 2023
- Timber houses
- Pirita, Tallinn
- 2023
- 252.8 m²

In 2023 this house in Pirita, a pine-shaded district of Tallinn, was named Best Private House at Estonia's Prefab House of the Year awards (Aasta Tehasemaja 2023). The jury assesses factory-built homes from across Estonia. This one took Best Private House.
Solid timber, no glue
The walls are MHM, short for Massiv-Holz-Mauer: layers of dried boards pressed into one solid panel and fixed mechanically, without glue. The wall carries the load, stores heat and stays vapour-permeable, so moisture moves through the structure instead of being trapped in it.
Insulation is wood fibre. Interior surfaces are finished in clay plaster, which buffers humidity the same way the walls do. The result is a 252.8 square metre house that regulates its own indoor climate. No plastic films.
Designed for its site
KAMP Arhitektid drew a roofscape of low pyramids that lets the house sit under the pines rather than compete with them. Black timber cladding outside, pale ash and clay tones inside. And, naturally, a sauna.
What it means for your project
TUUYA offers the same glue-free MHM technology, engineered and produced by the factory that built this house: our manufacturing partner EstHus. Awards do not build houses, factories do. What this title tells you is that the system we sell, solid timber walls with wood fibre insulation and honest finishes, stands up to a national jury in a country that knows timber.
If you want a house at this level, start with a conversation. We will answer with real numbers.
