Thebacken: Lakeside Timber Homes in Nybro
- Timber houses
- Sweden

In short: Thebacken in Nybro, Sweden, 650 m² of lakeside timber homes built between 2017 and 2020, dressed in falu red with green window frames.
Thebacken is a red timber building on a lakeside plot, so newly finished that the ground around it was still raw. Vertical board cladding covers the facade in a deep falu red, the window frames picked out in green. The volume rises two main storeys with a lower, set-back element on the roof. Bare birches, pines and a small playground fill the ground between the building and the water.
The homes inside run over several levels, joined by open timber stairs with dark tread pads. White walls sit above oak floors, and daylight comes in through tall windows and balcony doors. The kitchens are galley-planned, with white fronts, dark worktops and stainless appliances. Each dining area takes its place next to the glazing, keeping the living space open from the cooking through to the seating.
